Tribute for: TSgt Harold Mahy  (Fountain Inn, SC)
Tribute left by: Mike Bell (Joplin, MO)
Seven airmen perished in Vietnam on 13 Apr 67, 6 of whom are also listed as being lost in Khanh Hoa, therefore probably involved in the same crash of C-141A tail #66-0127. What is highly unusual is the fact that so many aboard were very senior NCOs! The crew were: Maj. Harry Brenn (pilot?) Capt. Morris Witt (co-pilot?) TSgt. Harold Mahy TSgt. Marshall Brown MSgt. Herman Miller SMSgt. Roy Shults, Jr. Their unit, the 4th MAS of the 62nd MAW stationed then at McChord AFB, WA, is recorded as having the mission of transporting nuclear and related materiel during the 1960s era. However, C-141 Starlifters were, also, very commonly used during the VN war for Freedom Flights home. Therefore, it seems rather more likely that this fatal flight was on a personnel airlift mission that day, but no proof of that inference has yet been found. Such an assumption is somewhat bolstered by the fact that Khanh Hoa province includes both Nha Trang and Cam Ranh bay, which were sites of major USAF bases during the war, and the latter of which was a common point of debarkation for Freedom Flights bringing troops of all branches out of theater deployment. The absence of any junior airmen aboard such as would be expected if the mission had been medevac is also telling and suggestive of a Freedom Flight vs. a sortie involving any kind of major loadmaster or similar activity. Neither the 4th MAS nor the 62nd MAW received any unit decorations directly related to Vietnam, but I cannot be certain whether this was the first or other flight of this bird and crew in-country, for whatever purpose it had in 1967. These units are not shown to have been TDY in Japan, Philippines, Okinawa, Hawaii or any of the other basings sometimes used for airlift operations during the war. A Tribute to my Military Dad From the opportunities of traveling, the activities we shared, and the life lessons you taught me, being the Dad you were has made me the man I am today.Knowing you were there as I received my Eagle Award or while I competed in High School Events, you gave me the encouragement I needed even though I didn't always do well. You taught me to respect others, work hard and take care of the ones you love. Dad you are my hero and I will always be your little soldier.

Tribute for: Francis Lampert  (Atlanta, GA)
Tribute left by: Ande Lampert (Boulder, CO)
My Grandfather. LTC F.G Lampert who enrolled in the army at a falsified age of 18 to eventually serve 30 years and fly and fight in 3 wars. He retired from the newly formed United States Air Force after serving in the Army and the Army Air Corps. He has inspired me to fulfill my dreams of flight and to dream beyond people’s expectations. He is my true hero. Bravery and his name stand side by side in victory. He will never be forgotten for all the miraculous deeds he did. We love you...
