| My wife, LtCol Clancy Preston, inspires me everyday. She has more integrity, honesty and compassion than anyone I know. She is a leader in every sense of the word, and is definitely an Air Force Hero.
Clancy joined the Air Force in 1971, during a tough time in our history, the Viet Nam era. She joined because serving her country was the right thing to do, and doing the right thing is what she does on a daily basis.
There are few like my bride of 20 years, and none her equal. |

Tom Easterling
(Charlotte, NC)
|
| Tribute left by: |
Garland Haywood (Mint Hill, NC) |
| Lt. Tom Easterling, USAF retired in this context, is himself a Hero. Traveling on a ticket to hell from his Uncle Sam, the young man left his home in eastern North Carolina for the distance shores of Europe in 1943. A fighter pilot with the 365th Fighter Squadron, 358th Fighter Group, he flew a P-47 Thunderbolt in combat over France and Germany and made noise in the sky and fire on the ground to aid in the pre-planned invasion of Normandy. His fight in the skies turned to a fight for his life in a Nazi Prison Camp. Lt. Easterling was severally injured when he was captured and years of effort was required to overcome. War is not glory - being able to overcome it - that's the glory! I am personally grateful to know him and to have the opportunity to give my public and personal Thank You for your service to our nation. To My Friend and HERO |

Jeffrey Carr (Mesa, AZ) |
| My dad, Charlie Carr, died 2 Mar 2006 is at DFW National Cemetery. Dad earned his wings in WWII and flew combat missions in the F-86 (Korea) and F-104 (Vietnam), and flew Berlin Airlift fighter escort. I thought all father’s wore a flight suit to work and flew jets. In 1966, we lived on George AFB and Dad flew his F-104C directly to war. Many didn’t return, but he did 100 missions over North Vietnam then flew F-4s at George. I learned to fly the F-4 in the squadron he had once commanded. He served 32 years, I served 28, so we talked flying, but I never told him he was my fighter pilot hero; a true patriot, Dad. |
