| SSgt Tubbs was KIA while serving as a B-24 tail gunner over Germany with the 579th Bomb Squadron of the 392nd BG on 21 Jul 44. The remaining crew survived and were held as POWs. He was buried in Lorraine American Cemetery - St. Avold, France.

He is a humbled member of “America’s Greatest Generation.” An educator who graduated from Indiana University in 1940, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the Pacific as a member of the 2d Emergency Rescue Squadron for the duration of WWII. He continued service as a veteran of the Korean War. His candle was extinguished on 3 December 2009. To celebrate his service and his life...the poem High Flight comes to mind. |

She was serving with the 132nd Fighter Wing of the Iowa Air Guard, including a tour in Iraq. Iowa Governor Culver recognized her with the Sullivan Brothers Award of Valor, and rendered military honors by Offutt AFB Honor Guard at Bancroft.

Assigned to the Air Transport Command, Robert was chosen to navigate for Hap Arnold in 1942 out to the SW PAC and back, and for Mrs Roosevelt in 1943 to the SW Pac and back. As Group Navigator for the 468 BG of the 20th AF, he was killed on their 15th mission on 5 Nov 1944 over the Indian Ocean leaving a wife and 2 children. |

| Airman Wood served during the Vietnam era as a Para Rescue specialist based in England. He was also very active in the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance, and was buried with military honors on 19 Oct 09 at the Canton National Cemetery.

| CMSgt Whitman served a hitch with the US Navy during WW2, and ended up retiring from the USAF after 24 years of service in 1969. He passed away on 8 Oct 09 and was buried in the Bushnell, Florida National Cemetery.

| 1Lt Ellington perished in the crash of his aircraft on 24 Nov 1913 near San Diego and was one of the first 25 rated Military Aviators, coming from a distinguished military family. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1909, and resigned to accept an Army commission in 1911, 1st Aero Squadron. Ellington Field was named after him.

| Sgt Stinson was KIA when his B-24J "Babes in Arms" was shot down near Palau on 1 Sep 1944. The remains of those aboard were found in 2004, and he was brought home in 2009.

| 1Lt Cheney, 1895-1918, perished in an aircraft collision over Italy with USAS airmen Oliver Sherwood and George Beach on 26 Jan 1918. All were buried at Foggia. The annual USAF Cheney Award for valor and sacrifice in a humanitarian effort, co-founded by his mother and sister Col. Ruth Cheney Streeter USMCWR in 1927, has been given each year since 1929.
